Avatar
Right then, I know I promised that there would be no more talk of Oscars this year but I can’t help it. The hottest Oscar related news this week must be that James Cameron is thinking of re-releasing Avatar in cinemas later this year. This apparently has nothing to do with making more money and everything to do with making sure everyone gets a chance to see the film. There is also the possibility that this re-release will include scenes that were cut in trying to get the film ready on time. USA Today also reports that Cameron has plans to re-release Titanic in 2012 to celebrate 15 years since the film’s original release and the 100 year anniversary of the ship’s original sailing. He is also hoping that this can be a 3D remastered version.

Caesar: Rise of the Apes
Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) is to direct Caesar: Rise of the Apes which is thought to pay homage to the 1968 original, Planet of the Apes. Deadline Hollywood reports that Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are writing the script which is thought to pay homage to the 1968 original Planet of the Apes. SciFi Wire also has details of the possible synopsis of the film which centres around a doctor’s search for a cure for Alzheimer’s. He tests on monkeys and ends up rearing Caesar who is incredibly intelligent and he mutates and evolves over time to the point where he can finally speak. Eventually, Caesar leads an army of apes in an uprising as a catastrophe hits mankind.
