Monday 12th October sees the release of French horror movie, "Inside" and I felt that I just wasn't up to the task of reviewing this one so decided that I'd hand it to a guest reviewer, who is much better qualified to talk of foreign horrors than me. He has the proper horror name of Jason and I'm sure he won't mind me saying that he really is a foreign horror nerd. Loves the stuff.
Anyway, check out his first of hopefully many reviews.
Pregnancy can be an anxious time in any prospective mothers life, but throw into the mix a 'mid term' tragic car accident killing her (Sarah's) husband and its a tough road ahead. This is further compounded the night before the baby is to be delivered. Isolated, alone and grieving; the arrival of a mysterious unknown female demanding entry does little to calm Sarahs nerves and some tense early moments ala 'The Strangers' eventually see her in bed alone in the secure house. WRONG.
What follows is a gruesome battle between mother, foe and others. With more blood than on a labour ward bi-monthly, this is not for the faint hearted. The climactic scenes are not advised for those 'expecting' and whilst this is no 'Switchblade Romance' the violence backs up the saying 'Hell has no fury like a woman scorned' - but which one?!
Unlike many horrors this movie maintains a sensible/believable plot and importantly the dialogue is necessary. The script has been kept minimal and because of this every conversation is meaningful and provides the correct level of insight to establish each character relevant to their role in the film. This film will appeal to more seasoned horror fans who enjoy their 'gorno' with some substance. The only criticism is that the end was predictable and once the horror started the excellent early tension never really hit the same heights, though the gore was at times, unpleasant but satisfying viewing.
Rent it - new to horror and want a taste of foreign class. Buy it - seasoned horror sicko!
Cheers Jase.
